Distribution: Uncommon west of the Cascades crest in Washington; uncommon from southern British Columbia to northern Oregon; eastern North America where S. nigra var. canadensis is native. and var. nigra is more frequently escaped.

Habitat: Disturbed areas where rarely escaping from nearby cultivation.
